Do you have a social butterfly that loves everyone and everything?
Have you thought about putting those special skills to use to bring joy and comfort to those who could benefit?
Therapy Dogs are specially trained to utilize their natural calm temperaments and manners in environments that are not so natural.
Therapy Dogs visits facilities like hospitals, hospice, assistant living, adult daycares, nursing homes and the like. These environments can be noisy, unpredictable, have odd smells, weird equipment, strange flooring and residents that can do unexpected things like screaming, crying, squeezing your dog, uncontrollable movements, etc.....
Our prep course teaches you and your dog how do prepare for and deal with these things confidently so they can provide a much needed and much appreciated service. Your dog must already have had basic manners training and be social towards people and other dogs. This class does not address behavior issues or other training problems or concerns. If you need help in these areas, please contact us for other class options.
This class can also serve as a "refresher" for those already involved in therapy work.
We are not a therapy dog organization or a certifying body. Each individual organization will have their own criteria for joining and their own temperament tests, but we are here to help you with the proper training and preparation to get to that point.
